Tick the 5 safety checklists before sending your kid to School

2020 was year-marked as gloomy and depressing for mankind because of the Covid19 pandemic, however, 2021 can be said as the year of silver lining.  The rate of infection is declining and also mankind has become much more adaptive to the pandemic. People have started going to the office, outdoors, and resuming normal life with all the precautions. Also, Governments are cautiously taking steps to open the Businesses, Institutions and allow people to return to their day-to-day activities. Furthermore, the initiation of vaccination programs to immunize the citizens has come as a hope for normalcy.

In this context, recent news has come that the Government is planning to re-open schools, initially the secondary schools and then primary ones as well. For all the parents, like me, this was a moment of mixed response as one side we are eager to send our kids back to school so that they can resume their studies and we, as a parent, will finally get some breather from our 24-hour parenting, and on the other side, we are still a bit concerned about the safety of our children.

Such decisions are welcoming as kids must go out and start their routine as online classes and confining kids within 4 walls is creating a lot of stress to both the Parent and the child. So being a worried parent, compelled me to introspect the situation and come up with some safety checklists for the kid before sending the kid back to school.

1. Monitor health first and performance next:

As a first point in the checklist, we should monitor our child daily for any signs of flu or covid-19 and we need to ensure that the kid is doing well and is not sick. We are in a situation today where a mild fever and common flu symptoms will lead to a doubtful stare from the school authorities, hence we must ensure that the child is doing well before sending to school, else take a day off or so till the child feels well. We should contact the doctor in case of any doubts and questions.

2. Ensure your child washes away the virus:

The second point that came to mind was hand wash/ sanitization. Ensure, the child has a hand sanitizer always with him or her. We must practice hand-washing at home with our child and explain why it's important to wash his or her hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before and after eating, coughing/sneezing, or adjusting a face mask. To prevent rushing, I suggest washing hands for as long as it takes to sing the "Happy Birthday" song twice. When hand-washing isn't available, I suggest that the child use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

Also, explain that he or she should avoid touching the eyes, nose, and mouth. Schools should encourage routines that encourage frequent hand-washing and following good hand hygiene practices, such as asking children to cover their mouths and noses with their elbows or tissues when they cough or sneeze and then washing their hands.

3. Mask your kid's nose & mouth and not the dreams:

Many Institutions are now signing up for bulk customization of their Masks with manufacturers in the Market. But do not blindly accept the mask that is offered by the Institution without checking it for safety. Ask your Management if the Mask has a test report proving its efficiency.

"When it comes to our kids' safety, never have a single question unanswered"

'MY' apart from offering the mass customization for Institutions and Businesses with 'MY' Mask Series 1, they also provide a lab-tested report, which is tested heavily by third-party laboratories for its Triple Action Filtration efficiency up to 99.96% from Bacteria, poisonous gases like SOx and NOx and also the virus.

MY Mask for School kids

Despite the mask that is offered by the Management, always ensure to pack a separate Mask for your kid in the backpack preferably a mask that is tailored with an Activated carbon and copper filter because the activated carbon absorbs the impurities, pollutants and all the disease-causing organisms and the copper kills every particle impurity that is absorbed leaving no stones unturned.

Teach your kid never to trade masks with the other children in the class and separately put the mask inside a labeled cover with their name on it, to avoid any confusion.

4. How equipped is the Management for Safety?

Next, as a parent, we must be aware of the safety arrangements undertaken by the school. Schools must be considered every class as a separate bubble. This way we can minimize the risk to an extent. Also, schools must have contact-less arrangements.

India's first UV One Portable UV Sterilizer is now available with 99.99% efficiency in killing all viruses and bacteria. 'MY' UV One Portable UV Sterilizer is powered with superior UV-C lights that are turned on with a one-touch safety button. Teachers, care-takers and helpers, can scan any surfaces and common touch points like door handles, tables, chairs, chalk pieces, etc. and with one flash of 20 seconds, the Portable UV sterilizer kills all disease-causing organisms making the surface extremely safe to use!

5. Encourage the kids to be mindful!

Lastly, the child must be trained to remain conscious about their surroundings. Although schools are doing their best, as parents, we should also ensure that kids carry their lunch as well as water bottles. The idea here is to avoid commonly used touch points as much as possible. Teachers should also supervise all of this.

Overall, 2021 is the year where we all are trying our best to adapt to the New Normal and the re-opening of schools is an indicator that we are heading towards normalcy. It is the responsibility of all the parents to make this decision a success. The best way is to educate the kids and practice the reality that Safety and Protection is the way forward and the only solution to prevent another strikethrough from altering our lives is by making Safety a part of our conscious lifestyle choice.
